To state Mulherin’s soulful harmonies are amazing would simply be an injustice. The twin Alternative R&B duo tends to glide across their track with their harmonies and ethereal production. “Reminder” is no different. Whether your focus is on the vocals or the instrumental production you are in for a treat.

Originally from Memphis, the Mulherin brothers moved to the city of Angels to get closer to the room where it happens. Since their move, they have been perfecting their craft. The sound they have carved out for themselves can be heard on their latest album Blurry. The layers of vocals envelop you into their world of call and response hushed vocals. The duo cites Frank Ocean’s nostalgia,Ultra as an influence which holds true when taking a listen to their use of synths pads and harmonies.
“Reminder” is a B-side from Blurry sharing the same themes of longing, heartbreak, and appreciation. Still using their signature delicate guitar picking, they distinguished this track by the beat using a slight atypical approach. Just as the rhythmic intro prepares you for an upbeat tune, the warm vocals wash over you and mellows out the track. The balance between the claps and guitar is already draws you in but completely enraptured when the chimes enter creating an ethereal sound. A breakup has never seemed more hopeful. From “I miss you when you were mine” to “thank you for your time. I won’t wait for you.” Detailing the appreciation for the impact of how a person made them feel, yet understanding the need to move on, the lyrical journey itself is heartbreakingly beautiful. The themes within the record are evident that the Frank Ocean influence is being worn on their sleeves.
Mulherin does not shy away from using silence and empty space. The empty feeling allows you to enjoy every piece of complexity within the production including the background vocals & harmonies that add tremendously to the melodic texture. It is safe to say that R&B is alive and well with them in the industry.
