Making a splash with a lighthearted Caribbean inspired track; Yung Juju makes one of his best songs alongside OhNoKid. Not only is this one of Yung Juju’s better vocal performances, but a new sound added to the Melodic rapper’s current discography.

Juknowwwwww! Much like his signature tag, the Melodic Trap artist, Yung Juju echoes through speakers and headphones all over Philly with his infectious hooks and melodies. A Dominican boy raised in the city of Philadelphia, Juju makes a splash through his eccentric melodic style drawing from influences all over the map. The artist is notably known for his Heartbreak style Trap Rap. Unique to the Philly Sound, the sweeter Trap style of melodic rapping is similar to the style PnB Rock helped popularize.
Change is important and Juju makes that clear on this track, both story wise and sonically. “This Time” featuring Philly artist OhNoKid, is a nice refreshing sound to add to Juju’s discography. The song starts with a phone recording from the girl of the story.
“Yo you’re always on some fucking bullshit. I’m so sick and tired of your shit, goes see if those other bouls are gonna put up with what I put up with. Fuck You”
This bitter message is meant to show the listener what is currently resonating in Juju’s mind. (For anyone unfamiliar with Philly slang and Eubonics, boul is a term that refers to somebody, usually another man.) Following the intro, Juju does what he does best by melodically rapping about love over a melodic light hearted instrumental. “This time I’m a better man I swear I swear I changed.” The melodic rapper seemingly draws inspiration from PnB Rock & Dancehall among other influences on this song while maintaining his artistic identity. There is a slight Controlla Drake presence on the track that will give the listener a vague sense of familiarity. Juju throughout the song is reaching out to a girl he has a bittersweet history with attempting to win her back.
This track has one of the stronger Yung Juju vocal performances seen so far in his discography. From the main vocals to the background echoes, he executes this Dancehall influenced track well. The mixing is good and coherent. The use of autotune is nice and really compliments the echoes and reverbs occasionally spaced out on the record. The feature from OhNoKid, although short in length, does a great job of closing the track with a flow switch up via his verse. Juju shines the best when he lengthens his melody and holds the note. It helps provide more emotion and sounds stronger overall. The echoes of love resonate the most when Yung Juju does it in auto tune and evidently has fun with it. At three minutes length, the song delivers a fun summer tune that is worth more than a few listens.
